At what do you point that your entire musical taste is based off of a video game soundtrack?

This thought comes to me every once in a while. Early to mid 2000s EA games had such kickin’ soundtracks.

Dance Dance Revolution (and related games) heavily influenced my musical taste in the mid-late 2000s. That inevitably led to Initial D, which got me into cars.

That was the last game I played regularly. I haven’t a video game in like a decade now. Maybe 12 years. That was a seriously fun game.

Ahh the good old days of EA, where burnout was a game they were willing to make, and the scourge of always on line and loot boxes hadn’t hit yet. Now instead of a successor to Burnout Paradise, we get Need for Speed Kickback. Sad!

EA always seemed to do well in the soundtrack department. The early Gran Turismo games had a decent track list as well as the Forza Horizon games. I’m gonna a little old school though and say that one of my all-time favorites was the Twisted Metal series. I can’t remember which one it was now, but I remember one was basically just Rob Zombie songs and that was the shit back in the day.

Well, my entire musical taste is not based off a video game soundtracks since I doubt many games would be into ‘70s jazz fusion, but I will agree that in the time frame you specified there were some absolutely kick-ass music selections going on that were unlike any time before or since. For me it was Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2. That turned me on to several artists I wasn’t familiar with prior, and still shapes my music listening habits to this day. To demonstrate, just picture someone over a half century old, windows in the minivan rolled down, blasting Rage Against The Machine, Public Enemy, Alley Life and Millencolin. Yeah, it’s a weird sight, one that will continue until I’m old and grey.
